This piece in Politico is a must-read for anyone concerned about our bloated deficits and our rising unemployment. Check that, this should be a must-read for everyone.
Conason over at Salon has some pertinent background information on the authors, but again, I recommend reading the article itself. To sum it up, the authors argue that federal spending NOW is necessary to address unemployment, and not doing so will only worsen our economic and deficit woes in both the short and long terms. It also makes a moral case for addressing unemployment, which is refreshing. To some the most intriguing aspect of the essay, as Salon points out, is that one of its authors is a leading deficit hawk and idol of the GOP and Glenn Beck.
